The MacMillan Hub fully opened in 2025 and was built with the aim of bringing a new community space into the area, encouraging creativity, wellbeing and learning. The hub is part of the local regeneration project.
Our Skills Hub shares the building with:
Muirhouse Library: local library with a host of activities throughout the week including Bookbug. You can check out more about what's happening on their Facebook.
North Edinburgh Arts: Community Arts organisation offering many groups and workshops, with café and theatre. Click through their linktree to find out more
Pennywell Early Learning and Childcare: local childcare centre
MacMillan Square will also host up to 150 affordable homes and 13 new retail units.
MacMillan Square and the hub is named after Maureen MacMillan a community activist from the local area.
Although the hub is a new addition, it is now the third incarnation of Muirhouse library with the first being built in the 1960s. And North Edinburgh Arts was first established in the 1990s. Check out the images below of what the area used to look like before and during the development.
